The Land

At Rottal Estate in Glen Clova, our cattle are raised in one of Scotland’s most beautiful upland landscapes. The farm stretches from heather-covered hillsides down to the banks of the River South Esk, with grasslands, woodlands, wildlife and fresh Highland air all shaping the way we farm.

We believe good farming starts with healthy land.

That is why we move our cattle regularly onto fresh pasture, giving grass time to recover naturally between grazes. This helps build healthier soils, supports wildflowers and wildlife, protects local waterways, and creates richer, more diverse pasture for the animals to feed on. The result is calmer cattle, thriving landscapes, and high-quality seasonal beef.

Our approach is low-input and nature-led.

By working with the rhythms of the landscape, rather than against them, we can reduce the need for chemical interventions while supporting biodiversity across the farm. From dung beetles and worms to birds and pollinators, wildlife plays an important role in the health of the system.

Every cut of beef we sell comes from cattle raised slowly and carefully in this environment, with respect for the land that supports them.
